Tina Descovich, who founded the parental rights group Moms for Liberty, is reportedly being considered as a replacement for outgoing Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran, who announced his intention to step down next month from his post to return to private life.

CFP sources in Tallahassee have confirmed to the Central Florida Post that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is said to be considering voicing his support for Moms for Liberty Founder Tina Descovich to be appointed to replace outgoing Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran. While DeSantis does not have the power to appoint an Education Commissioner, he does control the appointments to the state’s Education Board, and still carries significant influence among members of the board.

Descovich is a former member of the Brevard County School Board, where she served as both the Vice Chair and Chair. More recently, Descovich’s group Moms for Liberty, which started in Florida, now claims local chapters in over 25 states across America, with Florida remaining as their stronghold. Based in Melbourne, they reportedly have a membership nationwide of over 70,000.

The conservative non-profit group has been front and center in the fight to get Critical Race Theory out of the classroom and to remove sexually explicit books that many parents consider pornography from public school libraries. Under Descovich’s leadership, they have also aggressively fought COVID-19 restrictions in public schools. MFL has consistently aligned with Governor DeSantis’ stances on public education and have hailed him as the “Parents Governor.”

This has led to some in DeSantis world to encourage the Governor to publicly support the idea of the state Board of Education selecting Descovich as Corcoran’s replacement. She would be a strong advocate of the Governor’s publicly stated support for parental rights and his opposition to the unnecessary masking of children, injection of Critical Race Theory and curriculum that promotes the sexualization of young children in Florida’s public schools.

Plus, she has the experience of serving in both the elected role as a school board member and as a leader of a nationwide non-profit dedicated to parental rights and improving the public school experience in the state of Florida and beyond.

Signaling support for Descovich, who has built a nationwide profile through Moms for Liberty, would definitely rile far-left elected Democrats, teachers unions, and progressive activists. However, DeSantis’ first term as Governor of Florida has proven that manufactured outrage from such groups matters little to his legislative priorities and duties as the state’s Chief Executive.

When it comes to the ballot box, Virginia Republican Glenn Youngkin pulled off a surprise win against the Democrat machine in Virginia last year, where he closed the final months of his campaign by focusing almost exclusively on supporting the expansion of parental rights in public education and the opposition to far-left ideas like Critical Race Theory and biological males participating in girls sports.

Alicia Farrant, an Orange County parent and member of the local Moms for Liberty chapter, is running for a seat on the Orange County School Board this election. She recently helped this journalist expose a filthy pornography book, Gender Queer, which was available to students in Orange County Public School libraries. This journalist was forcibly removed from a OCPS School Board meeting in October of last year for the “crime” of reading allowed inappropriate passages and describing graphic images within the novel.

“We need a strong, courageous leader who is committed to ensuring the children of Florida receive an exceptional education. A leader with a backbone who is willing to stand firm protecting the innocence of our children, honoring the parent bill of rights, and sourcing curriculum that helps teachers get back to the basics in education. I believe Tina Descovich fits this need and would be an excellent choice for the next Florida Education Commissioner,” Farrant told the Central Florida Post.

It is unclear when the State Board of Education intends on meeting to discuss Corcoran’s replacement, or what pool of candidates they are officially considering.
